News of the new job offer from the African Progress Panel (APP), to former President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma, published last Monday 15th February, 2021, in one of the dailies with a condition that he should resign as a Chairman and Leader of the main opposition All People Congress APC party has clearly exposed ploys by the group.
The former president according to report, was recommended for the APP job by his Nigerian colleague and brother, former president Olusegun Obasanjo, whom many believe is being pushed by the incumbent Sierra Leone People’s Party, through the international system to divert the attentions of former president Koroma from body politics of the APC.
The offer therefore appears to have exposed the African Progress Panel in that since his retirement, former president Koroma has always engaged himself in several Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and African Union (AU) election monitoring missions in Africa. The AU and ECOWAS have never attempt such an offer to the former president of Sierra Leone.
Former president Koroma who is poised to re-elect his party come next elections in 2023, and his presence and active participations in the affairs of the APC party always poses serious threats to the ruling SLPP and the government of his weak successor.
However, foreign services and international systems experts view the proposed job offer by APP as an under placement of former president Koroma, considering his sound experience in enhancing the powers of the country’s Anti-Corruption, his roles in leading the Committee of 10 through Heads of States of Committee of 10 at the United Nations, the widening and deepening of regional corporation through ECOWAS, he does not really deserve to be placed on such a low level assignment.
The questions now on the lips of his followers and party supporters are that is the APP job really meant for the APC party Chairman and Leader, former president Dr Ernest Bai Koroma?
The news of his resignation resign proposal for an APP job offer pose counterproductive to former president Koroma avowed aspirations to re-elect APC come 2023.
It could be vividly recalled that since the ruling SLPP and president Bio came to power closed to three years now, the government of president Bio is always trying to suppress former president Koroma’s interactions with APC party, members and supporters across the country.
