Fifty one (51) years old Abdul Mimi Kargbo (a businessman) is standing trial at the Pademba Road Raod Magistrate Court No. 2, which is presided over by Magistrate Marke Ngegba for allegedly murdering Alpha Martin.
The incident occurred on the 27th March 2020, at Jombo Stone Bathurst Highway, in Freetown.
Led in evidence by Inspector Amie Korio, formal witness, Detective Inspector, (Paul Amara Maquoi), attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters Pademba Road in Freetown, he told the bench that he recognized the accused and could recall 27th March, 2020.
He added that on that day, he was on duty at the (CID) headquarters in Freetown, when a case and enquiry file of murder was received at the Homicide Syndicate Unit at (CID) from Waterloo.
The witness said the case file was contained the following documents which include autopsy report of the deceased (Alpha Martin), a death certificate, a request of a video clip of a vehicle registration number APL 589, for further investigation.
On Thursday 3rd March, 2020, he said he received a vehicle registration number plate APL 589, and he handed over to the Custody Officer at the CID headquarters in Freetown for safe keeping.
He said a request was made for a search to be conducted at the accused’s premises. The search warrant was produced and tendered for identification. The witness further testified that himself and Detective Sergeant 6566 Hangahun Karim obtained a voluntary caution statement from the accused.
He recounted that at the end of the statement, the accused admitted it to be true and correct by affixing his right hand thumbprint, which was witnessed by Detective Sergeant 6566 Vangahun Karim.
It was produced and tendered to form part of the courts records. The witness concluded his evidence stating that on the 9th April, 2021; he charged the accused with the offence of murder, which is contrary to law.
The police say Abdul Mimi Kargbo, on Friday 27th March, 2020 at Jombo Stone Bathurst Highway in Freetown, murdered Alpha Martin. The accused was not legally represented, as matter of fact, he conducted the cross examination on his behalf.
He was denied bail and remanded at the Male Correctional Centre, Pademba Road in Freetown. The matter will come up again on the 14th July, 2021.
