Ahead of 010 Bye-Election…Kailahun on Fire

Kailahun on Fire

Last Wednesday 17th February, 2012 bye- election campaign rallies in Constituency 010, Kailahun district, were rudely interrupted by violence in several villages within the constituency, ahead of a bye-election scheduled for Saturday, 27th February this year.

Allegedly said to have been perpetuated by the incumbent Sierra Leone People’s

Party (SLPP) thugs who were taken to the constituency by the party’s District Chairman Chucky, from Kailahun town to Manowa, Woluma and other places.

Chucky our sources on ground reveals, was a former Revolutionary United Front rebel commando during the ten years civil war, who is said to had trooped in hundreds

of thugs to villages within the constituency and terrorized vulnerable people.

The unrests took Pejeh Bongray, Penguya chiefdoms and series of communities in the Constituency 010 by the storm as such was never expected from an ordinary bye-election campaign.

Amidst the fighting one person was reported dead whiles on his way from work, when the young man was attacked and killed in cold blooded by group of SLPP thugs. They left his corpse in the bush, as hundreds of women and children had already fled their villages and sought refuge in bush.

Forum sources further uncovered that the SLPP district Chairman, Chucky and PC Bayoh jointly led Succulent, Councillor Dugbah, Lamin Lahai and Sao Lamin all SLPP thugs into several villages within the Constituency 010 who attacked and forced people to flee their various communities.

Attack on vulnerable people generated from their unflinching support to the independent candidate and the All People’s Congress candidate which the SLPP Kailahun.

District Chairman Chucky disrupted with rude violent attacks on the people of Manowa and other communities within the constituency.

In series of voice notes forwarded to Forum eastern region reporter, they resident after the other vowed not to support the SLPP aspirant Braima Zainab Kama aka Jenebu anymore, but remained firmly in full support of the APC candidate, John Allie and the independent candidate.

They said they are no longer going to take part in campaign rallies and meetings but pay keen attention on supporting the candidate, John Allie making sure secure a landslide victory in Saturday’s bye-election.

A key speakers in one of the voice notes said Kailahun will produce more independent candidates come 2023.

They observed that owing to the collective failures of PC Bayoh and the SLPP Kailahun District Chairman, Chucky to campaign for their party, are the more reasons for terrorizing vulnerable people with notorious thugs and ex-combatants all over the constituency so as to scare people from showing their fullest support to their choice of candidates.

With the life threatening matters posing serious security concerns in the region and the district in particular, Forum editorial team’s efforts at reaching the Local Unit Commander Kailahun, Police Station on the measures of response proved futile.
